Residential rental certification program

Renewal Requirements & DeadlinesEarly to mid October every year, landlords will receive a notice with complete instructions for renewing your certification, including your inspection time(s), personalized renewal deadline and fees. Your personal certification deadline for each property you own or manage will be one month after your initial inspection appointment (or November 13th if you qualify to skip all inspections). This means that ALL of the below certification requirements must be fulfilled by that date. Failure to fully certify the property by your personalized deadline will result in a $100 late fee and a 2 week extension to resolve all uncompleted requirements. If you still do not meet all requirements at the end of the extension, the property will proceed to adjudication which may result in an additional $1,500 fine and liens against your property. Certification requirements include:

  • Application is submitted
  • Annual rental certification fee is paid
  • Property has passed inspection & any deficiencies have been resolved
  • Crime Free certification is up to date
  • No outstanding VRLB liens, fees or enforcements on the property
  • No outstanding payments are owed to the Village
