Property Maintenance Citations
The Village addresses code violations by issuing an “order to remedy” and/or a ticket with a monetary fine. A “Friendly Notice” door hanger may also be given as a pre-cursor. Village Inspectors will conduct a follow-up inspection to verify the violation has in fact been resolved. We encourage you to communicate with the Village if you have special circumstances or require an extension to remedy a violation.

Unresolved Citations
Unresolved citations may result in an Adjudication Hearing: a type of court session in which an independent attorney serves in the role of judge. Failure to resolve a violation despite adjudication may result in additional fines and/or liens against your property. Once a lien has been recorded, it can only be released by paying the Village in full or negotiating a settlement. Further, Section 1-4-6 of the VRLB Municipal Code prevents the Village from doing business with anyone that has outstanding payments due or open violations. As such, a resident or business would be prevented from obtaining a permit, certificate or license of any sort if they had an unpaid ticket, unresolved lien or open code violation.

Free Help to Remove Graffiti
The Village will remove graffiti at no cost to you if your property is tagged. Call the Village Hall and ask for an inspection and a Graffiti Waiver, sign and return the waiver to the Village Hall. Per ordinance, graffiti must be removed within 48 hours.
